AIR LIQUIDE LAUNCHES HIV & AIDS WORKPLACE POLICY

Air Liquide Ghana Limited launched its HIV/AIDS workplace policy on Saturday 10th July 2010.  The objective for launching the policy is to reduce workplace HIV-related stigma and discrimination. The policy is also expected to create awareness and promote education on HIV/AIDS among the organization’s employees and their families.

Launching the document, the Managing Director of the company, Mr. Adou Kuoame Ano, said the policy was a commitment to ensure that its employees and their families were well educated on the effect of the pandemic on productivity.  He added that the seriousness of the menace can be seen by taking a look at the devastating impact on some African countries and therefore the need to create a supportive environment for the fight against HIV & AIDS. He urged the employees to be committed to the policy to enable it achieve its overall objectives of prevention of new infections as well as stigma and discrimination reduction among the workers.

The Programme Director of the Ghana Business Coalition Against HIV/AIDS, Dr Derek Aryee said the complex nature of the pandemic demands a comprehensive policy that addresses care, treatment and support, positive behavior change, stigma and discrimination. He commended Air Liquide Ghana for the initiative taken to protect and educate their employees and families on the devastating impact of the HIV & AIDS.
